Part Time Information Assistant, London. Library experience required.

A leading law firm has a great part time job opportunity (3 days per week) for an Information Assistant  to join their Knowledge and Information department.

The role would ideally suit a candidate who is studying part time for a library and information qualification, or already has a library and information qualification and one year’s experience within a professional services environment. A Library and Information qualification is highly desirable.


This position is responsible for providing support and assistance to the firm’s senior information manager in the maintenance and development of the firm’s hardcopy collection.

 

 Key job responsibilities may include:

 

- maintaining a tidy and professional appearance of the departmental libraries and the archive;

- shelving books and journals and shelf-tidying;

- managing the circulation of library books and sending out overdue notices to borrowers;

- carrying out periodic floor walks to check offices for missing books and journals and maintaining a list of missing items;

- filing loose-leaf updates;

- assisting in maintaining the online library management system and keeping accurate records of serials holdings;

- updating the intranet IS pages and guides;

- managing the check in and circulation of periodicals including receiving and claiming for print journals;

- maintaining up-to-date circulation lists for both hardcopy and online journals;

- assisting users with requests for journal articles;

- undertaking basic enquiry work, including legal queries for cases and legislation;

- producing company information reports and research;

 

- conducting regular press searching and alerts;

- assisting the senior information manager in carrying out of periodic stock checks and withdrawal of out-of-date stock;

- assisting the senior information officer with the distribution of permanent loan copies to fee earners;

- contributing to the development of library, information, and knowledge services through participation in team meetings and supporting implementation of the library strategy with colleagues;

- participating in appraisals and personal reviews and work to achieve agreed set objectives with appropriate training and development activities.

First rate attention to detail and good use of grammar are essential as well as having experience or interest in information and knowledge systems. Strong  communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to be able to do this job effectively in a highly professional environment, in addition to an enthusiastic personality and a willing and pro-active attitude.
